Chapter-4:-Basic Writing Skills
Writing:- writing is one of the ways of sharing our thoughts, and communicating ideas and views to others.

writing skill:- writing skill are very significant for communication. They helps us to communicate our message easily with clarity to an audience.

Phrase, Clause and sentences:--- are the three main structure and common parts of the English language.

Phrase:-- a phrase is a group of words acting as a single part of speech but does contain a subject and a verb.

Clause:- A clause is a group of words that has a subject and a predicate.

*A Clause can sometimes act as a sentence this type of cluse is an independent clause.

The Sentence:- A sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought or to make complete sence.

            Ex:- Plants need soil, water and sunlight to grow.

Types Of sentence 

* On the Basis of function

   i) Declarative sentence 

  ii) Interrogative sentence 

 iii) imparative sentence

 iv) exclamatory sentence

* On the basis of structure

  i) Simple sentence 

 ii) compund sentence

iii) complex Sentence 

iv) Complex-compound Sentence 

Types of sentence ( On the basis of function) 

1. Declarative sentence:- These are the sentences or statements that relay information or idea. They always ends with full stop(.)

         Example:- I always speak the truth.

2. Interrogative sentences:- The sentence that asks question is an interrogative sentence.

         Example:- why did you take my books?

3. Imperative Sentence:- A sentence that express a command, request, gives an advice or order is an imperative sentence.

         Example:- Jatin, hand me the book please.

4. Exclamatory Sentence:- a sentence that shows strong feelings or emotion is an exclamatory setence.

         Example:- What a beautiful garden!

Types of Sentence( On the basis of structure)

1. Simple sentene :- Simple sentene is made up of only one clause(main or independent clause). A main clause has both the subject and the verb, and express a complete sence.

         Example:- He ate an apple

2. Compund sentence:- A compound sentence has at least two main clause connected by aconjuction such as, and, for, nor, but, so, yet, or.

         Example:- I called him, but he didn't reply.

3. Complex sentences:- A complex sentence has one main clause and at least one subordinate/ dependent clause such as althouth, because, since, unless, when,etc. or a relative pronoun like who, that, which.

        Example:- I saw a girl who was hungry.

4. complex- compund sentences:- complex-compound sentence is made up of at least two independent clauses and one or more dependent clause.

        Example:- I forgot my sister's birthday, so I sent her a card when I finally remembered.
